Note: You must assess the attitudes of each party participating in the merger to see where problems might arise. Governance can be a stumbling block; not everyone can be the boss. Also, the reasons to merge are important. If the only reason a doctor is merging is because of managed care, this might be a red flag because merging does not guarantee success with third party payers. Doctors must realize a merger is a marriage of practices, one requiring much give and take. If you see a doctor cannot adopt this type of attitude, beware the merger might not be successful.
