The larger the medical group, the more likely you are to have a staff manual – but just as important is having a written physician policy manual as well. As practices change and grow, they often expect their physician contracts to take the place of clear, written policies.
If your group doesn’t already have such a document, you might want to consider creating one for the following reasons:
- A policy manual documents in detail what you and your partners expect from one another as members of the group.
- It serves to communicate those expectations to new physicians and recruits and helps veteran members stay on track.
- It reminds physicians of the group’s own operational internal policies and procedures.
- It reinforces group thinking over individualism and lays the groundwork for disciplinary action should it ever become necessary.
