Accidental HIPPA

I was at a physician client's office today and as I was walking through the reception room, a nurse walks out a door to get a patient and proceeds to say "Hello Mrs. ____, I heard you spent the weekend at our hospital hotel next door?" This was announced in front of a room full of patients. Was this a HIPAA violation?

My answer: Hell yes!! Just proves the point of my last post that most practices are not training their  employees (and physicians) on HIPAA privacy. If you are , congratulations!!!
