MEDPAC March 05 Report to Congress

MedPAC's March 2005 report to Congress contained the following list of recommendations to lawmakers directed to imaging operations and practices:

1. HHS approve coding edits for imaging studies to detect unbundled services and reduce technical payment for multiple, contiguous imaging.

2. HHS should set standards for providers that bill Medicare for performing and/or interpreting diagnostic imaging studies, administered by private sector organizations.

3. HHS to use claims data for measuring physicians' fee for service utilization.

4. Impose rules that further restrict physician investment in companies that provide services/equipment to  imaging centers to which they refer patients and bill Medicare.
