Importance of employee exit interviews from a compliance viewpoint

I am in Nashville giving a few speeches at the annual meeting of the National Society of Certified Healthcare Business Consultants (https://www.nschbc.org/).  The keynote speaker yesterday was a former attorney with the Department of Justice prosecuting healthcare fraud.

He made a recommendation regarding potential whistleblowers........always conduct exit interviews when employees leave and ask and document the question: During your time of employment with us, did you ever see anybody doing anything wrong or illegal with respect to our billing and collection activities? If "no" is the answer and documented, it will be more for you to be prosecuted criminally in the event of a whistleblower action.
