Screening a physician candidate’s spouse and any older children (e.g., teenagers) can give you insight into the candidate’s motivation for pursuing the job opportunity. This part of the process usually takes place after you have initially screened the candidate.
Ask the spouse questions such as the following:
- In which type of practice setting do you imagine your spouse would fit?
- What aspects of the job are the most important to you and your spouse?
- What do you like most about your spouse’s current practice, and what do you like least?
- If your spouse desires to move ahead with this opportunity, will you be supportive? If not, would you tell me why?
