Many group practice agreements are silent on the issue of when a physician can opt out of the call schedule. As such, make sure this issue is addressed in writing within your group practice. A good opt out provision will use length of service and an age limit as requirements of when a physician can opt out of the call schedule. Here is a common one:
To be eligible to opt out of the group call schedule, physician must have been employed by the group practice for at least 15 years and physician must be at least 60 years of age.
