Your perception of marketing

Many of my clients share with us that marketing is something of a dirty word to them. They feel that it is awkward and undignified to market healthcare services. It is beneath them. Healthcare providers -- especially those with years of education and training -- shouldn't have to resort to something as banal as marketing.

Do you agree?

The fact is that you are marketing your services even if you choose not to market. "Marketing" refers to the entire experience a person has of your practice. It includes every interaction you have with a patient or referral source, from your interview style to the way your office looks. There are plenty of marketing tactics that are not appropriate for certain healthcare professionals, or that may make you (and your colleagues) feel awkward. But there are also plenty of marketing tactics that can differentiate your practice in a positive, powerful way.
