Reminder – New Medicare ABN Form Change

In case you didn’t know it, effective 9-1-08 a new Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) went in to effect. The new form can be found at www.cms.hhs.gove/BNI.

There are no longer two ABNs. The ABN-G and the ABN-L have been combined in to one form. The previous ABNs were only required for denial reasons. The new ABN may also be used to provide voluntary notification to the Medicare patient of financial liability. Thus this new ABN should eliminate any widespread need for the Notice of Exclusion from Medicare Benefits (NEMB) in voluntary notification situations.
