Physician response to declining reimbursement

Written by Reed Tinsley | May 9, 2011

In the 2011 Healthleaders Media Industry Survey, the following question was asked of physicians:

HOW WILL YOU RESPOND TO LOW MEDICARE/MEDICAID REIMBURSEMENTS?

The following were their responses:

35% Seek employed position with hospital or health system;

28% Quit taking new Medicaid patients;

27% Quit taking new Medicare patients;

24% Seek shelter from a health system or large group medical practice;

12% Quit practicing medicine or retire.

Just proves my point - if you are going to sit there and be reactive, you are guaranteed to lose net income; YOU MUST be proactive with your physician practice in this ever changing healthcare marketplace. Strategize and plan your future!!
