Why Monitoring Employee Overtime is Crucial for Managing Office Efficiency

Is someone watching employee overtime in your office? Every month the administrator should be looking at the employee overtime reports to determine whether or not the overtime paid was in fact justifiable overtime. I find most times it is not justifiable or unnecessary - in other words, employees gamed the system to get higher pay and/or the office's inefficiencies caused the overtime to occur.

I know this sounds negative but unnecessary overhead seems to be a fact of life in medical practices. I don't know why management doesn't crack down on this harder. Why should employees be allowed to work through lunch? Why does a physician chronically run late in the day seeing patients?

With all of the gripes by physicians about their office overhead, this is something worth looking in to.
